Great Books That I Don't Talk About Enough

May 17, 2017 1 Comments

I was making a list with all the books I read throughout the past years in my One Note, to keep track of my reading besides Goodreads. Here I came across some amazing books that I read that I almost never talk about. Because they were so good, I wanted to share these books with all of you.

Question of the day:
Which books do you think were great but don't talk about enough?

Salt To The Sea - Ruta Sepetys
I always talk about how much I loved Ruta's other novel Between Shades Of Gray, but always forget about this one. This book follows the niece of the main character in BSOG. Even though I didn't love this one as much as Between Shades Of Gray, this was still really good. I was really mad at this character about the other book, but this really made me understand her choices too. What I really liked about this book is that it follows 4 different characters who all meet each other eventually. The way this is written is also amazing. Ruta Sepetys is an amazing author and this book needs to be read.
Goodreads

The Diabolic - S. J. Kincaid
I rarely read Sci-Fi books, but this was such a refreshing read. A lot of people found this book average, but to me it had something special. I really liked the idea of a robot disguising as someone else and going into enemy territory. I also liked that she was struggling with feeling things, even though she wasn't supposed to have those. This book took some really interesting turns and was something I hadn't read before.
Review | Goodreads

The Grisha Trilogy - Leigh Bardugo
This is actually a whole trilogy that I really enjoyed that I never talk about. I loved this world and the characters. The books were fast paced, interesting and the characters were all fun. The only thing I didn't like was how this story ended. I'm not going to spoil it, but I was really angry. I think that's the main reason why I never talk about these books.
Review | Goodreads

The Art Of Being Normal - Lisa Williamson
This was the first book with a transgender protagonist I ever read and it was so eye opening. I did make a tumblr post about how I think everyone should read this, but now I never really talk about it anymore. This book was fun, quick, had interesting characters and like I said, was so eye opening.
Review | Goodreads

Ash - Malinda Lo
This book was also something else. It's a Cinderella retelling, but with fairies and a gay Cinderella. Sometimes you just come across those books that are completely different from anything you've ever read. This book was one of those. It's really fast paced and the story just makes you want to keep reading.
Review | Goodreads

Wintersong - S. Jae-Jones
Wintersong. Where do I ever start? This book was incredible. It had all the elements that I absolutely love. The story has music and composing, it has great love and is written so beautifully. Sometimes you come across those books that are written in such a way that it's almost a poem. This book is one of them. I can't even start to explain how much I loved this.
Review | Goodreads

Stalking Jack The Ripper - Kerri Maniscalco
Another book that was really good. For whatever reason I rarely pick up mystery novels. But I was interested in the whole Jack the Ripper thing, so I wanted to read it. Reading this book was almost like watching an episode of Sherlock (and I love me some Sherlock). In my head I was trying to solve the case alongside out protagonist and the plot twist in this book omg. The best thing about this: there will be more books in this series!

Books That I Want As Movies / Tv Shows

October 19, 2016 2 Comments
Book to movie or tv show adaptations: a readers biggest dream and fear. Seeing your favorite book on screen can be incredible, but only if it's done well. If it's not, than it can be a readers biggest nightmare. Some examples of adaptations done well: Game Of Thrones, Outlander, Me Before You. Some examples of adaptations done...not so well: Shadowhunters, Twilight...
These are some books that I wish I could see on the big screen, but than again, only if they do it right.

Between Shades Of Gray
If you have been following our blog for a while, you will known that I absolutely loved this book. It's definitely one of the best books I ever read, and that means something. The story was beautiful and heartbreaking and I learned so much from it. This book will be a beautiful movie.
And guess what? Between Shades Of Gray is going to become a movie next year!!! It will be called Ashes In The Snow and the cast looks amazing. I am beyond excited about this movie, seriously.

Salt To The Sea
Another Ruta Sepetys book that I want to see as a movie. She is an incredible author and her books make you understand why people do certain things in certain situations and I think that is very important. Her stories are also very character driven and I would love to see all these different people come to life.
Aristotle And Dante Discover The Secrets Of The Universe
I'd love to see this book become a movie. There are so many amazing contemporary book out there who'd do so well on the big screen, especially this one. There aren't many movies out there who are about two teenage boys falling in love. Besides that Ari and Dante are both also such interesting characters and I think that a lot of people will be able to relate to them. This is just a very important story that should be shared with a lot more people, people who don't read books.

The Infernal Devices
It's funny that I'm mentioning this trilogy because in the intro of this blogpost I mentioned how I don't  like Shadowhunters, but I think these books will make a very good tv show, if it's picked up by a good station....with a big budget...and good actors...I've always loved The Infernal Devices more than The Mortal Instruments, mainly because the characters are a lot more likable to me (and I just really really really love Jem Carstairs).

Furthermore
This book hasn't even been released that long yet, but I think that it will make an awesome movie, that I think kids will also love. Like Alice in Wonderland or The Wizard Of Oz. This world was so interesting, but there were quite some things that confused be just because I couldn't really visualize it. I think that all of those problems will be gone once it becomes a movie and I most of all think that everybody will love it.

So those were all the books I think will do very well if they hit the big screen. Let me know in the comments which book you would love to see as a movie or tv show.

Books That I Want To Read This Summer

June 10, 2016 1 Comments
Only 4 weeks of college left for me and since summer is almost here (on my bday yay), it's time to share all the books I'm planning on reading this vacation with you. Am I going to read all of these? Probably not, but let's see how many I'll end up reading. Also, these are the books that I already own and want to read, because for example Empire Of Storms by Sarah J Maas will come out this summer, so I'll obviously read that one too, so this list is everything I already own.

The Kingkiller Chronicles
These books have been on my TBR for a very long time and this summer I finally want to read them. At least the first one. I KNOW I'll love these books, because the summary sounds absolutely amazing. I can't wait to dive into long epic fantasy reads this summer. I'm so ready.

The Song Of Ice And Fire Series
I've read the first two books in this series and LOVED them. Game Of Thrones is my favorite show and I really want to continue them. I'm about 250 pages into A Storm Of Swords and have no idea why I stopped because it was great. Will I read the three remaining books before the summer ends? Nope, but I'm going to try anyway.

The Lunar Chronicles
Another series that has been on my TBR for quite some time now. I have no idea if I will love these or not, because at first the summary didn't sound that great to me, but all the booktubers and other reviewers I follow and trust love this series, so I had to give it a try. Right now I own the first two books, but if I'll love them I will definitely buy the other books as well.

The Remnant Chronicles
Another book that has been sitting on my shelf for quite some time now. I'm actually planning on selling my paperback and repurchasing it in hardcover, along with the other two books after the final one is released. That way I can binge read all of them.

The Falling Kingdoms Series
I just got this book and am dying to read it. Honestly I don't know what it's about, but I know everybody has been calling these the 'YA version of Game Of Thrones', and like I explained earlier I LOVE Game Of Thrones, so I'm excited. Also, these covers are stunning omg. I can't wait to own all of them.

So which books are you planning on reading this summer? Let me know in the comments!

Books That I Judged By Their Cover

May 22, 2016 1 Comments
I can't believe I can actually write an entire blog post about books that I judged by their covers. I know it's bad, but I judge books by their covers ALL the time. If a book has a horrific cover but an amazing summary, the chance is about 80% I won't buy it.
As some of you might know: I take a lot of pictures for my book Tumblr b00kishfantasy and I want to have pretty books in my pictures.

Question Of The Day:
Have you ever judged a book by it's cover? If so, which one?

Passenger - Alexandra Bracken
I definitely got this book because of it's incredible cover and I cannot stop taking pictures of it. I didn't know much about this book, only that it had time travel and some kind of treasure hunt, which was good enough for me. I have to be honest: I did not like this book AT ALL. I know I'll get the second book in the duology anyway because the cover is also stunning and I have problems.

Shatter Me - Tahereh Mafi
This was a cover buy that actually turned out very well for me. I got this book because I thought the cover was stunning, I mean look at it, I've taken like 100 pictures of these books. I knew the story was about a girl who could kill people by touching them, but that was literally it. I ended up LOVING this trilogy and they are such fast reads too.

The Kiss Of Deception - Mary E Pearson
I haven't actually read this book yet but I got the paperback on sale a while back. I don't know why I haven't read this yet. I think I'm going to wait for the final book to come out, which I believe is later this year. I am actually considering selling my paperback and getting the hardcover, because the wait for these books to come out in paperback is forever.

Soundless - Richelle Mead
Another cover buy I haven't actually read. I love this cover so much, I think it's beautiful. The concept of being set in some fantasy-ish China sounded great to me, but when I started reading it the first 30 pages were so boring to me that I didn't feel like continuing, also because I was in a reading slump from The Mortal Instruments series and this wasn't the right book to read at that point. Now I'm not even sure I'll ever pick it up again.

Cinder + Scarlet - Marissa Meyer
This is probably one of the worst cases of cover buys, because I already own the first two books in the series and may buy all the other ones soon too. I haven't even read the first book yet. Do you see my problem? I do think I will really like this series, because all the reviewers I trust a lot loved this.

Books That Are On My TBR

April 14, 2016 1 Comments
A massive TBR pile: we all have one. Today I'll be going through some of the books on my to be read pile! Of course, these aren't all of them. I have about 25 books that I own copies of that I still have to read (and about 180 books on my goodreads to read list oops...)

Question Of The Day:
Which book have you owned for the longest time? How long have you owned it?

Longest owned books
Four | I got this book over a year ago, when I read the other Divergent books. I loved the first one but they kept getting worse throughout the trilogy, that's why I'm honestly not really interested in reading Four...
The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas | I watched this movie several times (it's beautiful) and found this book at a yard sale and bought it for *drumroll* only €1!
Wonder | I purchased this book at the same yardsale, also for €1. My friend recommended it to me, but I'm not really a big contemporary person, so I didn't read it yet.
Blue Lily Lily Blue | I don't know why I haven't read this book yet, because I loved the first two. They just take me a very long time to read, I have no idea why...I do want to get to it soon, maybe this summer, so I can marathon this one and the Raven King.
The Night Circus | Another book I got for only €1 at that yardsale. The summary sounded really awesome, but besides some magic and circus aspect, I have no idea what this is about.

Newest purchaces
I have tried not to buy too many new books this year, because I want to read the ones I already own first. These are the books I've purchased over the past two months.
Lady Midnight | I am currently reading this and it's AMAZING. Just like all Cassies books. The story is a bit slow, but it's really good.
Outlander | I've been wanting to read this book forever and I finally purchased it. I actually spend more money to buy the tall paperback, because I really dislike reading Mass Market paperbacks. The tall paperbacks are so pretty.
Cruel Crown | I read Red Queen a year ago and liked it, though I thought it wasn't the most original book. When I found out this was released I had to buy it. I just haven't read it yet. I'm rereading Red Queen at the moment because I forgot the entire book. After that I'm planning on reading Glass Sword and then this one.
Unite Me | I read and loved all the Shatter Me novels, but didn't own this one yet. It has a story from Warners POV and Adams. I'm not really excited for Adam his story, because I find Adam so annoying, but I am really looking forward to reading from Warners prospective, because I love him.

Oldest adds on Goodreads
These are the books I added on Goodreads when I made my account one and a half years ago. Honestly I haven't read any of them yet, but I do own copies of the first two.
A Dance With Dragons | I love the Song Of Ice And Fire series and already read the first two book. I'm currently about 250 pages into A Storm Of Swords, the third novel and after that, I'm obviously planning on reading the other two books that are out so far.
Outlander | I already spoke about Outlander in my Newest Purchases part above. I am in love with the tv show and really want to read the book, as I've been wanting to for a very long time.
Grave Mercy | I added this book a really long time ago, but honestly I don't really feel like reading it any time soon. There are just many other books I want to read first, though I love stories about assassins.
Assassin's Apprentice | Did I already mention I love books about assassin's? I've been wanting to read this book forever and I have NO idea why I haven't even bought it yet, because it sounds SO good. I actually feel like ordering the book now...maybe I should...All of Robin Hobb's books sound great I want to read all of them.

Latest adds on Goodreads
Into The Dim | I found this book in Peruse Project her bookhaul video and it sounded like something I would really like. Now I'm just waiting for the book to be released. The cover is also absolutely stunning.
Me Before You | I saw the trailer of this movie and I love both Emilia Clarke and Sam Claflin and it looked like such an amazing and beautiful story. I read that so many people had to cry while reading this and I can't wait to experience it myself. I really want to read the book before I watch the movie.
The Burning Sky | This book isn't really popular and I have no idea why. It sounds like such an epic fantasy story and I can't wait to read the book as well (and the covers are all stunning).
Ever The Hunted | This book was also on my most anticipated books of 2016 list and I have to wait till December this year for it to come out. Ugh the concept sound so incredible and I really really want to read it...CAN IT BE DECEMBER ALREADY?

Books I'm putting off
Two Towers and The Return Of The King | I read the first Lord Of The Rings book a year ago and it took me like two weeks to read, which is quite a long time for me. Honestly I'm scared to read the other two novels because they are long and read slow, but I do really like the story, so I should just start reading these again.
Pride and Prejudice | I've been wanting to read this book for such a long time. I read the first like 20 pages but it was slow and the writing was difficult. I've been putting it off ever since.
Sherlock Holmes | Another book I've been wanting to read forever. I am in love with the TV show and really want to read the books too, but for the same reason as with Pride and Prejudice; it's written in Old English, which will take me forever to read...
An Ember In The Ashes | I've been putting this off because of the hype that was surrounding it a year ago. Now it has died down a bit, but I still don't really feel like reading it. Maybe I'll just marathon the books once they're all released. Unless that will take like years.

Books I want to get to soon
Outlander | The third time I'm mentioning this book: that probably means that I should read it soon. I'm currently reading Lady Midnight, but as soon as I finish it, I'll finally pick up Outlander, because I'm dying to read it.
The Name Of The Wind | All the books I want to get to soon are massive fantasy books, which are most of the times my favorite books. I started reading The Name Of The Wind a while back, but I was in a reading slump, so I stopped reading, because I knew I wouldn't enjoy it as much as I would if I read it when I would really be in a fantasy mood, which I am now.
A Storm Of Swords | I'm already 250 pages into this book and I already love it. The Song Of Ice And Fire books are so great but they take me quite a long time to read, that's why I usually read them in parts, which is why I already read 250 pages and stopped.

Don't forget to answer the Question Of The Day in the comments! We love to read them.

Books That Made Me Cry

April 04, 2016 1 Comments

We all have books that made us cry and today I want to tell you which ones these were for me. On this list are some books that made me tear up a little bit and books that made me cry not a river but an ocean. Of course, there will be spoilers in these posts, so I made the title of the books bold so that you know about which book I will be talking.

Question of the day:
Which book(s) made you cry?

Allegiant by Veronica Roth
I think everybody cried when they finished this book. I personally really didn't like it, but the ending was heartbreaking. I was spoiled for Tris dying, but I didn't know about Uriah, so when he died I was like no pls not Uriah. The way he went was so incredibly sad, with his family deciding not to keep him alive any longer, because there was no hope for him anyway.
Even though I was spoiled, I cried so hard when Tris dies and literally, at night I couldn't sleep because I kept thinking about how sad her death had been. She survived the death serum and then gets shot. I kept saying no no no no but then her mom came and I was like maybe her mom is still alive (it was wishful thinking), but then Tris saw the bullet wound and I realised her mom had come to take Tris with her.
Another heartbreaking moment was when Tobias goes to spreak her ashes over the city by going down the zipline. He still did it, even though he was afraid of heights, just because Tris would have wanted it.

Queen Of Shadows by Sarah J Maas
This is one of the novels that only made me tear up a little bit. It was the part where Aelin goes to visit Sams grave. I think we all teared up a little bit there. I never shipped Sam and Celaena or anything, because I read the Assassin's Blade after I read Heir Of Fire, so I was already a massive Rowaelin shipper at the time, but it was still sad. Especially when she thinks about how Sam never knew who she really was and that he would have made a great king. It was very sad.

City Of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare
If you read our blogpost frequently, you know I loved Sebastian, even though he was an evil bastard. Sebastian has everybody as a prisoner in Edom, the demon demention he now wants to rule. He wants Clary to be his Queen and rule beside him. Clary pretends she wants to and Sebby wants her to kiss him, to prove her love. Instead she tells him she wants a hug and then she stabs him with the blade that's filled with heavenly fire.
The heavenly fire burns away all the evil inside someone and when there is enough left of someone to live, they survive, but Sebastian is corrupted by evil, so he dies.
When he is in his mothers and Clary's arm, Jonathan returns and has green eyes. I was crying so hard at this point. I was really hoping for Jonathan to have a shot at life and have a family, although the Clave would have never allowed that. It didn't matter - there wasn't enough left of him to live and Jonathan dies in his mothers and sisters arms. BRB CRYING
That wasn't the only thing that made me cry. After that Magnus his demon father appears and will let them return to Earth if Magnus stays with him in Edom. Nobody wants that to happen and in the end the demon ends up talking all Simon his memories of his friends and the shadow world. He is now not a vampire anymore either. Now the reason why this made me cry so much is because Simon grew so much as a character and we followed his journey throughout six books. For that to all be taken away made me so sad.
The last thing about the book that made me cry was the Epilogue. Cassandra Clare is SO good at wrapping up series and her epilogues are always so heartbreaking. The reason why I was so sad wasn't because of anything that happened, but because the story was over. I love the Mortal Instruments so incredibly much and the fact that the story of these characters was just over made me cry.

Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare
Are you ready because I have a lot of feelings about this book. I wrote a full review with all my thoughts about this book, so if you're interested you can read it here.
The first thing in Clockwork Princess that made me cry was of course, the part where Will goes to see Jem and the Parabatai say a final goodbye, because Will knows Jem will die soon. I love Jem so much and I just couldn't stand the thought of him dying. In the Infernal Devices you also get a really good view on what the Parabatai bond feels like and that only made this goodbye worse, because Will is about to loose the person that is most important to him.
I have to be honest: I skimmed the pages a bit, because I had to be ready for Jem to die, I had to know when it would happen. Then, on page 309 my eye sees the word: Jem was dead. I literally THREW by book across by bedroom, screamed and cried, because I did not want my poor Jem to die. Jem is the purest being alive and he deserved so much better.
The next part that made me cry was the Epilogue, just like in City Of Heavenly Fire. Only where the Heavenly Fire was all happiness, this one made me cry like no book had ever made me cry before. In the final chapter, everybody is happy and being in love together and 10 pages later, we read about how all of them are dead.
I can't remember the exact sentence, but there was this part where the book was like: Gabriel, Cecily and Sophie all came the day Will died. Gideon wasn't there, because he had died a few years before. It was absolutely heartbreaking to read about all the characters you have lived their story with for three whole books all just being dead.
The saddest part was where Will actually dies and Jem/Brother Zacheriah comes to play their story on the violin in his final moments. I couldn't actually hear the music, but I play the violin myself and I could imagine what it would sound like, which made it even worse. Finally, Jem and Tessa both hold Will's hand when he dies and I'm really trying not to cry again because I'm writing this in class...

Books That Disappointed Me

March 20, 2016 5 Comments

No matter how much we hate it: we all have books we ended up liking a lot less than we thought we would, which always ends up being a major disappointment. As I explained in my '25 bookish facts about me' post, I try to only buy books I know I will enjoy, but sometimes it still end up enjoying books a lot less than I thought I would. Today I'll be talking about some of those books.

The Fault In Our Stars
A book I think most reader have read and love. It was the first (and only) book I ever read by John Green and because everybody always talks about him like he is some kind of god, I had to read one of his books. The reason I chose this one is because I watched the movie when it was released and I enjoyed it.
I ended up liking the book a lot less than I thought I actually would. I thought there was nothing special about the way he wrote, which I thought would be the case. The characters were enjoyable, but didn't have anything special about them besides the fact that they both have cancer. I also didn't enjoy the general storyline and thought it was kind of your regular 'doomed lovers' story.

I Was Here
This was the first book I read by Gayle Forman and I knew a lot of people liked her other book 'If I Stay' and the story of this book sounded like something I would really enjoy. I hadn't read a book that dealt with suicide before, so I couldn't wait to start reading.
Nothing in this book ended up being a big surprise for me. In the beginning the reason behind the whole suicide is actually already pretty clear and as soon as the main character met the male love interest, I knew they were going to end up together...

Allegiant
Allegiant, the final book in the Divergent trilogy was such a big disappoinment to me. I LOVED Divergent and thought Insurgent was a pretty good book as well. Then I got to Allegiant...I hated it. I felt like the story was so incredibly slow and boring and nothing exciting happened aside from like 20 pages in total, in a book that is around the 500 pages. It was nice to find out the whole 'story behind the story', but it was just waaaaay too long for me....Also the deaths felt so unneccesary, like Veronica Roth only put them in there to shock her readers. That's really how it felt for me.

Red Queen
I don't really want to call Red Queen a disappointing read, because I still enjoyed the book and am excited to read the second one, but I just thought there were so many influences from other fantasy novels such as Game Of Thrones that made it a bit unoriginal for me.
Honestly I also didn't remember much from most of the events that happened in the book, because it didn't wow me enough.
Overall I was just expecting a lot more from it.

Passenger

The last book that disappointed me a lot was Passenger by Alexandra Bracken. I wrote a review on this book, so if you're interesten in my full thoughts, you can read it here.
The concept of the book sounded so amazing to me and I was about 99% certain I would absolutely LOVE this book and that it would end up being one of my new favs.
This wasn't the case.
The first 50 pages of the book were fast paced and great, but then out of the blue it became so incredibly slow. It took me about 2 weeks to read it, which is usually the time it takes me to read a book such as A Game Of Thrones or The Fellowship Of The Ring...
I just felt like there was so much unneccesary information being thrown at you every single page and most of this information wasn't even really about the plot of the story. This is what made it a very boring read to me.

Question of the day:
What are some books that disappointed you? Do you agree with me about these books or not?

~ Amber
