TV Show Talk | Game Of Thrones S7 Expectations

December 01, 2016 1 Comments

Season 7 of Game Of Thrones is still a very long way off, but since the first mini clips of it were released recently, I want to share my thoughts and expectations with you and since nobody knows anything about what's going to happen, since The Winds Of Winter isn't out yet, we can only guess. If you are not completely caught up with the story yet, I recommend you don't read this blogpost because SPOILERS will follow. You have been warned.

Jon and Daenerys
I am going to warn you one last time, because spoilers for something that will definitely happen in Season 7 are following. So I've been spoiled for this as well, because I didn't know or WANT to know that this was going to happen in S7, but Facebook ruined it for me. Thanks Facebook.
Yes, Jon and Dany are definitely going to meet in Season 7. I already thoughts so, though. Since Dany wants to rule Westeros and Jon had been proclaimed King in the North, the only logical thing would be that they meet and become allies. Jon hates the Lannisters and Dany hates the Lannisters.
I can't even imagine the army they will raise together. I mean think about it, Dany had the Unsullied and the Second Sons as an army and the Martells, Tyrells and Greyjoys (kinda) backing her up with all their soldiers. Jon has all the houses in the North and the Wildlings backing him. Oh and let's not forget about the fact that Dany has 3 DRAGONS. Cersei, if I were you, I'd be scared.

Cersei the Mad Queen
Speaking about Cersei, I really like the way her storyline is going, she was honestly one of the most interesting characters in Season 6 for me. Throughout all the seasons, you can slowly see Cersei become more and more evil, until she completely looses her mind at the end of season 6 and blows up the Sept of Baelor. The scariest about all of this is that the only thing that kept her human was her love for her children, but now that they are all dead, she will truly become the 'Mad Queen' that everybody had been talking about.
What I expect of her in season 7 is 1: that she starts killing everybody that is against her or doesn't please her and 2: that she goes insane fearing Daenerys and her army while trying to come up with a plan to defeat her without actually having to face her, a typical Cersei move.

Arya reuniting with Sansa and Jon
I've been waiting for an Arya x Jon reunion ever since they seperated in season one and I feel like next season that will definitely happen. I had no idea Arya had already travelled to Westeros until she murdered Walder Frey in the season finale.
I also want her to reunite with Sansa, even though they were never on good terms. Throughout the seasons you can see Sansa and Arya missing each other and kind of accepting one another, even though they are apart.
I do think that Sansa and Jon will be shocked by the fact that Arya became and assassin and that their little sister is now a killer. I especially think Jon will have a difficult time believing this, and that he will see her in a completely different light. I just hope it won't make him hate her or anything.

Jaime, Tyrion and Cersei Reuniting
This isn't something I think will happen, but rather something I hope will happen, and that is a Jaime x Tyrion x Cersei reunion. I know Cersei and Jaime have already reunited a couple times, that's not very special, but I want Tyrion to meet them again, hopefully with Daenerys at his side, so that Cersei will know that her brother in now with the enemy. I can already imagine the hate on her face and her telling him she always knew he was bad.
I just hope that Jaime won't kill Tyrion, because he did tell Cersei he would after Tyrion killed Tywin, but than again, he also told Tyrion he'd never kill his brother.

Jaime killing Cersei
As some of you may know, there is a prophecy that Cersei will be killed by one of her brothers, a witch has said this. The same witch told Cersei that she would outlive all her children and that she would be queen until a younger and more beautiful would come.
I really like the idea of Jaime killing Cersei, which may sound very bad, but I want him to be the one to kill her. Cersei is the only woman Jaime had ever loved, but when she was in that throne room, you could tell by his face that he was realising how crazy she really is.
I love Jaime Lannister (well, season 3+ Jaime) and he has showed so many times that he is actually a good guy and this will be the ultimate way for him to redeem himself.

RHAEGAR TARGARYEN
I've said so before and I will say so again: I love Rhaegar Targaryen, even though I've never seen him before. I really, really hope we will see him in Season 7. They were teasing us so much with those flashbacks in the last season, but we never got to see him.
I think that this time we actually will. An actor named 'Devin Oliver' was cast for the 7th season and he looks exactly like Rhaegar Targaryen (and if very handsome). If you google him, the articles will pop up immediately.

Jon Finding Out He's A Targaryen
This has to happen in Season 7 right? I mean he's going to meet Daenerys and we all know it. Though it would be really something for Jon to be the only one not knowing something...Right now Bran in the only who knows, so in order for Jon to know Bran has to find him first.
The only thing I wonder is whether or not Jon is going to believe him or not. I mean he is his brother and all (or actually he isn't), but how would you feel is your apparently-not-brother would tell you ''oh a tree gave me a vision and haha, it's funny but uhm, you're actually a Targaryen''. Yeah, think about that.

Brienne and Jaime
I want Brienne and Jaime to get together so bad. I know there was a little something that people saw between Brienne and Tormund, and even though I really like him, he shouldn't end up with Brienne. Her and Jaime have so much history together and went through so much. When they are in the same room you can see them being happy and generally just relying on one another. I also think that Brienne showed us the good side of Jaime, because I started liking him in Season 3 when they were traveling to King's Landing together.
And just look at this, don't tell me this is not cute:

Sam and Gilly
Is there anyone who actually cares about their storyline? Because I don't. Literally, where are they going with this? They spend an entire season getting from Castle Black to Oldtown and I feel like their storyline will just be the most boring part of the season. I like Sam as a character and I like him with Gilly, but I do not care about Sam training to become a Maester and Gilly just doing dishes or something.

Bran and Meera
Oh look it's another storyline I do not care about one bit. It's no secret that I've always found Bran's storyline so incredibly boring. Whenever I get to his chapters in the book I literally feel like skipping the entire thing, because they are so boring.
I do see how his POV is important in Season 7, since he is the only one who can tell Jon he's a Targaryen, but can we just get to that point and be done with him? Oh and let's not forget about the fact that he had one of those visions while he was told not to, got an entire White Walker/Wights army to their doorstep and KILLED HODOR. Yeah, I don't like Bran.

White Walkers
Oops, I keep forgetting about the White Walkers. I mean they're a very serious problem, but compared to everything else that's happening in Westeros, I just keep forgetting them.
Will they get over the wall in Season 7? I do not think so. I think that the creators will first let Cersei and Daenerys have a battle (or well, their armies), make Dany queen, end the season and keep the White Walkers for Season 8, the final season, in which they will either beat the White Walkers or will all be destroyed. Judging from the fact that George said the series will have a bittersweet ending and that they love killing off characters, everybody will most likely die.

Wow, sorry for that gigantic blogpost, but Game Of Thrones is my favorite show and I have a lot of expectations for the seventh season. Don't forget to comment all your thoughts and expectations in the comments so we can discuss the upcoming season together!

TV Show Talk | Game Of Thrones

May 10, 2016 2 Comments
The third episode of season 6 came out two days ago and today I am back with more of my thoughts. I love Game Of Thrones so incredibly much and it feels so good to write these episodes reviews on our blog.

So far I think it has been a good season, but not as exciting as I was hoping to be. That's about everything I can say without spoiling you, so if you've not seen every episode of every season yet, I recommend you don't continue reading.

Don't forget to leave your thoughts in the comments!

SPOILERS AHEAD!

We start off the episode with Jon Snow's naked body, which is always an incredible start. Davos is standing in the room, which I found kind of strange, because I thought everybody has left when he came back from the dead. I really liked the horror on Jon's face as he realises his men betrayed him.
I saw an interview with the directors and they spoke about how Jon was never afraid of death, but now that he realises there is nothing after you die, he has something to live for and does not want to die. I thought it was a very strong scene and you could really feel Jon his pain.

Next Jon goes outside into the freezing cold and the only thing I could think was: if I had just been brought back to life, I would not want to be out in that cold, but okay that's probably only me. My mom and I (we always watch GOT together) laughed so hard when Tormund made that joke about Jon's penis it was like: yeah you're not a God because you've got a small penis. Great.

After the Jon scene we follow Sam and Gilly. Honestly I had completely forgotten that they were going somewhere and I don't really care about their storyline. Despite the fact that they are cute, I have never really cared about either of them and I just think this is a storyline we can do without.

Finally we get to see the Tower Of Joy flashback and like I explained in my episode one review: I believe the R+L=J theory 100%. I thought this was THE moment they were going to confirm that theory and I was SO excited for this scene. I love the sword fighting scenes on this show, they are done really well and everything looks so incredibly real. I thought her Arthur Dayne was epic with his two swords. To my great disappointment, the three eyed raven takes us away before we find out what's happening inside this tower.
I was also disappointed to hear that Rhaegar Targaryen is already dead at this point, because I really want to see him. I don't even know why, but I have a slight obsession with him.

After the very disappointing flashback scene we go to Daenerys who arrived at the Khal widows house and I'm so curious about what will happen next here. At the end of the scene it seems like Daenerys may not be allowed to stay in the temple and I can't wait to see what will happen in future episodes. I'm honestly hoping Drogon is coming to burn shit and save him mom.

Next we follow Varys who is talking to the woman who works for the Sons of the Harpy, which I enjoyed but didn't find particularly exciting or anything. After this, though, followed probably my favorite conversation of the season so far. Tyrion is trying to talk to Missandei and Grey Worm, who are very awkwardly sitting at the table. I loved that quote where he calls himself a wise men, it was very funny.
Varys comes back and informs everybody that the Sons of the Harpy are being financed by the masters of Astapor, Yunkai and Volantis. At this point I'm just like 'yeah you know, it's probably better is you just get the hell out of this city because you're all going to wind up dead otherwise'.

Another part I really liked was where Tommen goes to see the High Sparrow. Every time Tommen tries to achieve something I can't help but laugh, because he is still so young and has absolutely NO idea what the hell he is doing, but I appreciate him trying.

Arya is finally welcome in the House of Black and White again and is being beaten with sticks again. First I was like 'sigh here we go again', but this actually turned out to be a scene I highly enjoyed watching. Arya is finally learning and managed to hit that other girl in the face, which was great to watch.
Jaquen takes her to the little pool and my heart started beating faster. At that same moment my mom says 'Wait, doesn't that water kill you?' I was thinking the exact same thing. There is nothing to worry about, though, because if you're truly no one, the water won't kill you. Arya gets her sight back, which is great and I hope this storyline will get better now, because like I also explained in my previous review: I expected so much more from this.

I feel like we all used to love the North and the Northerners and are now all just like yeah no they're all bastards. At least that's how I feel. Ramsay is now ruling, which is obviously not great and the Karstarks are on his side. Some Umber guy comes before him and will swear no fealty to him, but does have a gift. Now I have to be honest: I already saw this was going to happen on facebook, so the surprise was kind of gone, but my mom had no idea so it was nice to see her reaction.
He bring Rickon and Osha forth and I wonder what Ramsay is going to do to him. I just hope he will not hurt little Rickon (who by the way got so big holyshit what are they feeding him). Ramsay asks how he can know for certain that this is indeed Rickon Stark and the head of his direwolf is thrown on the table. WHY DO THEY ALWAYS HURT THE POOR WOLVES ON THIS SHOW GOD DAMMIT IT'S SO UNNECCESARY.

The final scene of this episode is where Jon goes to deal with the men who killed him. This was such a powerful scene. Jon asks them for their last words and ser Alliser says he had a choice and will stay with it. No matter how much I hate this man, I do like that no matter what, he will do what he believes in. The only thing I found strange is that there are only four men up here, because there were definitely more that stabbed him during the season finale of season five and there were also more stab wounds in his chest, so where did the other men go?
Lastly, Edd tells Jon he should burn the bodies and Jon says he should do so himself, his watch has ended. I thought this was so incredibly beautiful. I didn't know what Jon would do when we was resurrected: stay at castle black or leave and he chose to leave. I wonder where he is going. Hopefully to kill Ramsay.
Can we also take a moment for the soundtrack they played here, it was such an incredibly sound check. The music they use on the show is always so beautiful, but I feel like this song was the most beautiful of them all. Listen to it here.

TV Show Talk | Game Of Thrones

May 04, 2016 2 Comments
Episode two of season 6 has just released and I am back with another review. The only non spoilery thing I can say is that I thought this episode was less good than last weeks, except for a few things that happened. If you do not want to be spoiled; don't continue reading.

SPOILERS AHEAD

We start off the episode with Bran and to be honest: I find Bran the least interesting person in this series, same goes for him in the books. I've read the first two and every time I get to a Bran chapter I'm just here like aaagghhhh can I skip this please.
I did like the flashback. I think Game Of Thrones does the flashbacks soooo incredibly well. Like the one with Cersei and the witch last season, that was great too. We got to see little Ned and Lyanna Stark, which was just a happy little scene. I also really liked that we got to see Hodor as Wyllis (or however you write his name). It really made me wonder what it is that happened to him that turned him into the idiot he is now...
The we get back to the tree and immediately it gets boring again, or at least I thought it did. I also don't really know how to feel about the Children of the Forest, because they're supposed to be these elf like child creatures, but the one we saw was a full grown woman...I liked the girl we saw at the end of season 4 more.

We then switch back to the Night's Watch and Ser Alliser (who I hate with a burning passion) is hacking the door down with his men and SURPRISE BITCHES IT'S THE WILDLINGS. I loved this scene SO much. I really like the Wildlings, always did and I love scenes with them. Tormund Giantsbane is actually one of my fav characters on the show.
I loved that when the giant smashed the guy against the wall, all the remaining Night's Watch men are throwing their weapons down like 'lol nope', it was hilarious.
I can't wait to see what will happen to the men that stabbed Jon, I hope they get executed (and Ser Alliser in the most painful way please).

Next we get to King's Landing and I honestly thought this was quite a boring scene. Cersei is not allowed to leave the the Red Keep on Tommen's orders, which I actually thought was quite sad, because she loves her children and really wanted to see Myrcella.
At this point my mom says ''I really hope she dies''. Actually I don't want Cersei to die, because no matter how much of a bitch she is, I really like her. I don't know what it is, but no matter how hard things get, she always stays strong. I think the show will become a lot less interesting is she were to die.
Tommen is talking to Jaime next to Myrcella's body and I don't remember much of this conversation because it was quite boring, but I do remember Jaime threatening the High Sparrow. I loved the thing Jaime said when the High Sparrow asked if he would spill blood in this holy place. ''Oh the Gods won't mind, they spilled more blood than all of us combined.'' I thought it was a really powerful quote, because these idiots all follow Gods who are more cruel than any person alive.
Tommen finally goes to see his mother and is asking her for help. I'm honestly scared to see what will happen next, because nothing good can come from Cersei helping out her son. I just hope Tommen doesn't turn into Joffrey 2.0 because I love his character and actually think he is a good king.

I loved the scene in Meereen. I could spend hours watching conversations between Tyrion and Varys, because they are always so funny. Drunk Tyrion gets the great idea to set the dragons free and goes down into the tomb of the pyramid to do so himself. Every time I see the dragons on this show I am yet again amazed by how real they look. The CGI is just amazing, great job on that show. I'm curious to see what's going to happen now that Tyrion was the one who freed the dragons. Are they going to turn on Daenerys and follow Tyrion? Is Tyrion going to fly a dragon too?

Next we go to Arya and I have to be really honest here: I expected so much more from her storyline in Braavos. At the end of season 4 when she gets on that ship, I was so incredibly excited to see her become a badass assassin, but all that happened last season was sweeping floors. beating with sticks and cleaning corpses...Such an anti-climax.
I did like to see how invested she is in being no one, because when Jaqen told her she would get her eyes back if she would say her name, I was expecting her to break.
Now that she is going back to the faceless men, I really hope we get to see some badass training scenes because that's what I've been waiting for, for about one and a half season now...

Now the next scene really surprised me. Ramsay Bolton STABS his father in the heart. Now Roose really deserved to die, and I found it quite amusing that he died the same way as Robb, who he stabbed in the heart. I have to say: I really don't want Roose to be dead at this point, because Ramsay ruling the North is SO MUCH WORSE. Roose, despite the fact that he betrayed Robb, has some common sense and Ramsay is just insane. That scene where he fed his mother and brother to the hounds just fucked me up. I knew he was going to kill them the moment he stabbed Roose in the heart, but it was just horrible.
I feel like the show makers are just trying too hard to make Ramsay as evil as possible. It has gotten to the point where I can predict what's going to happen next and it's just not believable anymore...
I am curious to see what Ramsay is going to do next, though. Is he going to storm Castle Black and kill Jon Snow like he offered to do? It's such a stupid idea, the Night's Watch is literally the only thing between Westeros and the White Walkers and you are going to storm their castle. Ramsay are you just straight up dumb? (probably yes)

Something that didn't happen in this episode that I wonder: are the White Walkers really not able to get on top of the wall? Because during the Hardhome scene last season we saw them standing on top of this ice wall too and they could just get off without getting hurt...So what is with the Wall that makes them not able to get up?

Next, Brienne is sitting with Sansa and tells her she has seen Arya looking healthy and dressed as a boy. At this point I'm actually hoping for a Sansa and Arya reunion. I don't know why, but I would really like to see that.
We learn Theon is planning to go home and I don't know when this happened, but I am actually starting to like Theon, even after all he has done...What the hell is wrong with me?

After that little scene, we switch to the Iron Islands and see a conversation between Balon and Yara Greyjoy. I just think Balon is being stupid and ignorant and really deserved to die. That scene with Euron Greyjoy kinda confused me, though, because we no absolutely nothing about this character who is now suddenly showing up and killing Balon, what???!! I can't wait to see what's going to happen here next.
I hope Yara is chosen to rule the Iron Islands, because I love her so much. I hate how women are really seen as the weaker sex in this world, so when a badass lady like Arya or Briennne or Yara appears, I just hope the best for them. I actually think she would make a great leader.

Finally we get to the moment we have all been waiting for: Davos is asking Melisandre is she can ressurect Jon. I really liked seeing how Melisandre has lost all her faith in the Lord of Light and says that all she has seen was a lie, but this made me really scared for the whole bringing Jon back to life deal.
My heart was just pounding when she was saying the ''spell'' that is supposed to bring Jon back and the whole time I was thinking ''It's not going to work, it's not going to work''. BUT IT DID. Oh my god they teased us soooo much with this, but let's be real: we all knew he was going to come back. I was expecting for them to drag this out all season and bring him back the last scene of the season finale, so that we would have to wait a whole other year to see what would happen next, but I'm really glad it didn't.

TV Show Talk | Game Of Thrones

April 26, 2016 7 Comments
Game Of Thrones is my all time favorite TV show and I have waited a very long year for Season Six. In the mean time I re-watched all the other seasons twice, because I need this show in my life. After a very, very long wait Episode One of the new season is finally here. I want to do a little series of my thoughts on every episode of the season.

Question Of The Day:
What were your thoughts on the episode?

As always, we start the season right where it ended in the season finale. We zoom in on Jon's bloody corpse and immediately all the feelings hit me again. I really liked that Ghost was howling for Jon and trying to break out of the cage.
Davos is the first to find his body. I personally love Davos, he always seems to be the smart one and does the right thing. Another thing I really liked was how much emotions Edd was showing and saying Jon was his friend. I could really feel him grieving for Jon. The Night's Watch men who are still loyal to Jon protect his body in a room, together with Ghost, Davos and Melisandre. I am so excited to see how this storyline is going to continue.

We then go to the place in Castle Black where all the remaining Night's Watch men are gathered and all of them are calling Ser Allister and the others traitors for killing their Lord Commander. I loved to see all of them defenting Jon. I was surprised to see how open Thorne was about killing Jon, I was honestly expecting him to say it wasn't him.

The next character we go back to is Ramsay Snow. Now I'm going to say something very shocking: I think Ramsay is such an interesting character, despite the fact he is a sadistic murderer. I also LOVE Iwan Rheon, the actor who plays him. He is such an incredible actor who is doing a marvelous job at portraying such a horrible person.
Ramsay is standing next to Myranda's dead body. This was such a weird moment, because you could see Ramsay had real feelings for the girl and it was sooooo strange, because usually the only feelings he shows is the joy in torturing people.

Next we see a conversation between Roose and Ramsay Bolton and this was another thing I really enjoyed. Roose is mad, because Sansa is gone and he just lost his key to the North. He knows that the Northeners will follow Sansa, no matter what, because she is a Stark and they have ruled the North for thousands of years. This conversations also shows that Stannis is really dead, no matter what some people were saying about how they didn't see the killing blow. I'm kind of sad about Stannis being dead, because apart from him burning his daughter alive, which was probably the most horrible thing I've ever watched, I really liked him...

Next we go to Sansa and Theon, who are running from the Bolton men and their hounds. Theon tells Sansa she has to run for Castle Black, because her brother Jon is Lord Commander and that he will help her. It just made me so sad that Sansa doesn't know another family member of her has died.
The Bolton men find them and for a minute I could see everything going to hell and Sansa and Theon being dragged back to Winterfell, but then Brienne and Podrik save the day and kill the Bolton men. Can we just take a moment for Podrik. I think he is sooooo funny, I don't even know why. He's just so awkward and clumsy. It makes everything he does funny.
Brienne swears fealty to Sansa, saying the same vow she said to Catelyn and Sansa tells Brienne the same thing her mother said once. Seeing Sansa as a grown up woman, pledging the same oath as her mother just made me so sad, because in that moment she reminded me so much of Catelyn.

What follows is another scene that absolutely broke my heart. Cersei is told a ship from Dorne has arrived with Jaime and Myrcella on it. I saw the smile on her face and knew she didn't know her daughter is dead. Laughing Cersei runs to the docks, until she sees the boat carrying Jaime and Myrcella ashore. The smile fades from her face and she knows. It was so horrible to watch, because no matter how much of a bitch Cersei is, she loves her children, which made this moment so sad.

After a while we switch to Dorne, where Ellaria Sand and Doran Martell are having a little, not very important talk, until Doran sits down and suddenly I get this feeling hitting me and I just knew: he's going to die this season. And yes, 2 minutes later, he's dead, together with his son who is murdered by the sand snakes.
I am very interested to see where this storyline will go, because there will most definitely be a war with the Lannisters. I don't know about the Martells, but the Lannisters don't have much money left and the only members still alive or in King's Landing are Cersei and Jamie. Jamie has one hand and I don't think Cersei can lead an army into battle, so I'm curious to see what will happen.

Finally we get to see Tyrion and Varys in Meereen and this part was just kind of weird to me, because they are having a nice chat and suddenly LOOK A PART OF THE CITY IS ON FIRE. What??? I think it's just for the best that Daenerys leaves Meereen and just conquers another city, because this is not going in the right direction...

Next we go to Daenerys, who is taken by the Dothraki. Now let me just say that I think the Dothraki men are disgusting. They take and rape whatever they want and say what they like to women, it makes me sick.
She is taken to the Khal of this khalasar and I thought everybody knew who she was, but apparently they don't. What they also don't know, is that Daenerys understands everything they say and I was just like awweeeyeah my girl Dany will fuck you up.
She tells them she is the widow of Khal Drogo and suddenly they are all respectful to her, which was very strange because seconds before they were talking about whether they should rape or behead her...Apparently the Dothraki have some kind of honour.
They now want to take Dany to Vaes Dothrak to be with the other widows of Khals and I was just like no no no don't take her there that's literally on the other side of the world.

After Daenerys we switch to Arya who is begging on the streets for money. This was another scene I found very weird. Suddenly this girl just appears again, who I really hate and is hitting Arya with a stick, again. She tells her to be at the training tomorrow, so we can assume Arya is welcome in the house of Black and White again...I think?
I wonder if Arya is going to find out Jon has died. He was also her favorite brother and in the book she and Jon often think about each other, which I really loved. I think Arya will be absolutely devastated if she find out Jon is dead.

Then we get to the final scene of the episode and this was just the biggest WTF of the episode. Melisandre is in her room, naked (of course) and she takes off the ruby necklace. Suddenly she turns into this super old woman with saggy boobs and grey hair and I was just like okay what the hell is going on. I really hope this will be explained in the next episode, because I don't know what to think anymore.

My theories for the season:
The first theory I believe 100% is the R+L=J theory. If you don't know what this means, you can read all about it here. It just feels like such a Game Of Thrones thing to happen. And I love the idea of the honourable Eddard Stark promising his dying sister to take care of her child and pretending it was his own.
There are two theories I believe about Jon's fate this season. I am a massive supporter of Melisandre ressurecting him, like Thoros of Myr did for Beric Dondarrion in season 2. Why would they show us that is it wasn't going to be important for something further on in the show? And Melisandre knows about ressurecting people too, because she asked Thoros how many times the Lord has brought him back.
Another Jon Snow theory I believe, that I recently read about, is that they will burn his body, like they always do, but instead of burning him, the fire brings him back to life, because he is a Targaryen and fire cannot kill a dragon. It's the same as happened with Daenerys her dragons in season 1.
I also hope that Arya will somehow regain her sight, because it can't be that she will be blind forever right? I don't think she will. I want her to get her sight back and be the most badass assassin that has ever lived.

Episode Rating: 8/10

TV Show Talk | Shadowhunters

February 19, 2016 2 Comments
I already wrote a blogpost for my thoughts on the first two episodes of the show Shadowhunters, and since then a few more episodes have come out. I have some new thoughts on the show and therefor I decided to write another discussion/review for my thought on the show right now.

For my last review I started of with the actors and the way they portrayed the Mortal Instruments characters and since my previous review a few more characters have been introduced to the series, even some characters that don't appear till book 4.
The first new character that was introduced to the story is Maryse Lightwood. Now I didn't like Maryse much in the books, but holyshit, she's such a bitch on the show. Why are you acting so mean to Izzy, what did she do wrong? I really hope she improves. I don't really have feeling about the other Lightwoods that made their appearance so far (Robert and Max), I'll just have to see how their acting is and how their roles will be on the show later on.
Another character that was recently introduced to the story is Camille, the head of the New York vamipre clan. Well I have no idea how to feel about her. First: she doesn't look anything like I imagined her in the books, but that's just my personal view. But WHAT is her obsession with Simon? In the books she is interested because he's a daylighter, but here he isn't even a vampire, so wtf Camille?
I was very surprised to see that Simon is actually one of my favorite characters right now. I didn't really like him the first like, 4 books, but I really like the way Alberto is portraying him. He's funny and sassy and awkward and everything Simon is.
The last character I would like to talk about for a bit is Isabelle. I feel like she is just too sexy, if that makes sense...She IS sexy, but I don't know, she just feels a bit slutty and that takes away her character, because Izzy is such a strong person and I don't really feel that on the show...

Now I would like to talk about the relationships on the show for a bit, starting off with Jace and Clary. I loved them together in the books and couldn't wait for another part where they would kiss or something, but in the show I just don't feel the connection between them. Jace is all like 'I want to protect her. Stay away from my girl blabla', but I don't feel it...Hopefully this will come in later episodes, because I really love them together.

Another bond I don't really feel is the Parabatai bond between Jace and Alec. In the books I could so clearly feel the bond between them and the brotherly love they had for each other. In the series it just feels like a burden they have to live with, it doesn't feel right. I also don't like that they argue so much. They do in the books, but their arguing on the show is different.
A relationship I do LOVE on the show is the relationship that's building between Alec and Magnus. They are one of my favorite ships and I am so happy to see it come to life on my screen. Unlike Clary and Jace, I can really feel the connection between them and both actors play their parts so incredibly well. I can't wait to see how their relationship wil evolve from here.

The general storyline is also getting better. I still don't really like that they changed it so much from the books, but I can live with it. This way it's also wondering what will happen next for us book readers.
One thing I really didn't like are the flashbacks that happened in the 6th episode. The actors that portrayed Jocelyn, Luke and Valentine looked nothing like them and I honestly just saw it as one big joke. I do understand why they chose to add these flashbacks, because on a screen this makes stories more interesting and I usually love flashbacks, but the acting was just bad and the actors bothered me. I do have to point out that I really liked what we saw of Idris/Alicante so far, it really looked like I pictured Idris in my head and I can't wait for the group to go there themselves.

I of course have more thoughts about the show, but this is just what stood out to me most. I'll be writing another review/full season recap once the last episode of season 1 is released and share my final thoughts with you. So tell me in the comments, what do you think about the show, the actors and the storyline?

TV Show Talk | Shadowhunters

January 24, 2016 0 Comments

After the enourmous flop of the City Of Bones movie, we got another chance to dive into the world of the Mortal Instruments with a brand new tv show called Shadowhunters. Next week the third episode will air and today I want to review the first two episodes that are out so far. This reviews will not contain any book spoilers, so don't worry if you haven't read all of them yet.

When the cast was released a while ago I was very happy, I really liked the way most of the cast members looked and I think most of the actors are very true to the characters their discription in the books. The reason I say most actors, is because I have a lot of problems with Dominic Sherwood playing Jace. I loved the way Jamie Campbell Bower played Jace in the movie and to me he perfectly fits the discription of Jace, from the looks to the way he behaves. I mean even Cassie herself said that Jamie is an awful lot like Jace in real life. Maybe I don't like the way Dominic plays Jace either, because they gave him some really bad lines, I hope that will be better later on in the show.
I also think they made Isabelle way too sexy and slutty, even for Isabelle. Yes, in the books she uses her amazing looks as a 'weapon', but she also has really big trust issues because of something that happened in her family (no further spoilers). The way they made her in the show is slutty and simple minded, which is not Izzy at all.
I also have problems with is Clary. I don't exactly know what it is about the way Kat is portraying Clary, but is annoys the hell out of me. I have to say: in the first two books Clary annoyed me too, but this is different. I think show Clary is too sexy-stubborn, where book Clary is more awkward, which makes it seem way too acted and fake, it doesn't feel right.
The last  character I would like to talk more about is Valentine. I love the way Alan van Sprang is playing him. Yes, I know he doesn't look like book Valentine at all, but in this case it doesn't bother me at all (although I now do fear for how Sebastian is going to look, please let him have white hair, please). Alan makes Valentine look like the crazy villain he is, but still expresses some feelings toward Jocelyn, which we never saw in the book and I really like that.

Now I'd like to talk about the show and the storyline a bit more. We all knew they were going to make changes from the books and that they'd be big, but I had no idea they were going to change it this drastically. I don't really understand why, because the story of the book is incredible on its own. Most people are saying it's changed so much for the people who haven't read the books, who won't understand the story otherwise, but when us book readers first started reading City Of Bones, we had no idea what was gonna happen and what the entire backstory was either right? No, we slowly had to find out, so why can't it be like that on the show?
I'm also not really into the way they made the demons look, why do they all look the same: like humans with weird jaws? In the books there are so many different kinds of demons, so why do they all look the same in the show? The CGI is just terrible, I hope it will get better throughout the series.

There are so many more things that are botherering about the show, from the way the institute looks, to the person they casted for Hodge and so many other things. But besides all of this, I do enjoy the show more than I thought I would. This review is mostly critical, but I am giving them the time to get better, from the actors to the way the show looks. Maybe, by next season it will be amazing. Let's all just pray it will be.
